Ride to Conquer Cancer

I’m participating in the Ride to Conquer Cancer, a 260km + ride over two days from June 18-20, 2010. I’m raising $2500.

Big Realization from Last Year

In the Ride ‘09, I realized that I wasn’t riding for the people already suffering with cancer or who have died from cancer. I realized I was riding for the people who do not yet have cancer, that they may never get it or may have an easier and more successful treatment process. After years of struggling with my relationship with my father and his 12 year battle with cancer, this realization was huge for me. It helped me understand things better.

In November 2009, my father finally died. I say ‘finally’ because his health had been poor for a very long time and he had been on 16 different medications. He was finally set free of his ailing body. And I was set free too: set free from worrying about him, from bad memories, and finally knew that he was free of pain. His father died of blood cancer, my father died of multiple myeloma (a form of blood cancer) after 12 years. Perhaps when I get it, I will be able to recover from it.
